Darwin Visits MWCC: Academic Apathy & Creationist Jibberish Abound

The Mount Observer, Mount Wachusett Community College, MA

1 day ago by Cheyne Ordonio

Consider me among the godless un-American atheists bent on imposing a secular tyranny upon the world. Darwin is my Jesus, and Evolution is my God. I'm being sarcastic - somewhat - but the topic of Evolution is among my favorite subjects, ranking just below the rise and fall of the American Dream.

Room Draw Recap and Tips

On a fateful afternoon in either February or April, the student masses gather in the upstairs hallway at the Rodgers Recreation Center armed with IDs and official-looking postcards. Hearts are racing. Mosh-pit lines are forming by way of pushing and shoving.

3/4/10 - We're gonna take you back - back to the days when John Travolta was considered traditionally attractive, when disco dancing wasn't a public embarrassment and swinger sessions were all the rage and not just an excuse to mix it up. We're going back to 1971, a pinnacle in sex history.

Tim Cahill for governor

As my article on February 11 shows, I do not have a favorable view of political parties, particularly the Democratic and Republican parties. I see political parties as hurting, not helping, the democratic process. As my article in last week's paper shows, I think that the federal government has gone beyond its means and continues to spend a much higher amount of money than it gets in revenue, thus resulting in ever increasing debt.

Maddow a welcome and worthy speaker

The Sophian, Smith College, MA

Rachel Maddow is unarguably an icon. More than a political personality, she represents success for women of all orientations, in all fields. She is full-out funny, with ties to Western Massachusetts that make her seem like an old friend. It's no wonder that someone so eloquent, intelligent and familiar would be welcomed to Smith with open arms.

Five-College males pollute classroom

The Sophian, Smith College, MA

Smith is a women's college. It is all over the college's literature and Web site. Disregarding issues of transgender inclusion under this title and its emphasis on women, men in the classroom change what it means to go to a women's college.

I myself understand and have benefited from collaborations within the Five College Consortium.

3/4/10 - Say you're a typical University of Rhode Island student hanging out in your dorm room on a Saturday night. You're just relaxing, doing a little channel surfing. Your roommate is having a few friends over, things get a little rowdy, and before you know it, the resident assistant is knocking on your door.

Letter: Readers support Central Falls High School Superintendent's decision

03/02/10 -

To The Cigar,

I am writing in response to your editorial, "Where's the team" in which you wrote that Central Falls Superintendent Frances Gallo chose the "wrong method" when she decided to embrace the turnover model. This model, which has been proven successful in other low income areas, requires that all teachers receive pink slips, but then allows the school to rehire 50 percent of their best teachers.
